Kate Kroll is an award-winning filmmaker and the visionary president of Black Moon Media, a boutique production company dedicated to powerful, character-driven storytelling and breathtaking visuals. With over 15 years of experience across both scripted and unscripted formats, Kate’s work spans feature films, documentaries, series, music videos, and immersive short films — all united by a commitment to emotional clarity, creative risk, and cultural resonance.

Kate’s production of the dramatic comedy Portraits from a Fire (Crave/Photon Films) earned her the Canadian Media Producers Association Kevin Tierney Emerging Producer Award and secured a theatrical release on 33 screens across Canada. Her diverse portfolio includes the CTV reality dating series Farming for Love; the thought-provoking CBC Gem series Future Futures; the critically acclaimed punk documentary No Fun City (Super Channel); the spiritually rich documentary Path of Pilgrims (Vision TV); and the Prism Prize-nominated Tanya Tagaq music video Retribution.

Her films and videos have screened at major festivals including TIFF, VIFF, ImagineNative, DOXA, and have been broadcast on major Canadian networks and international platforms such as Crave, CBC, Super Channel, Hollywood Suite, Knowledge Network, Vision TV, APTN, and in-flight entertainment on Air Canada and West Jet.
Kate has been recognized with awards, grants, and mentorships from the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, Women in the Director’s Chair, the Directors Guild of Canada, WIFT-V, Canada Council for the Arts, the NFB, and BravoFACT, among others.

Recently, she premiered her feature documentary Lunatic: The Luna Vachon Story — a powerful exploration of the life, legacy, and inner struggles of wrestling icon Luna Vachon — at Fantastic Fest and the Canadian Film Fest, expanding her reach into internationally celebrated nonfiction cinema.

Her scripted work continues to garner attention, with the drama What Comes Next — starring Mena Suvari and supported by Telefilm — set to headline the Poppy Jasper International Film Festival & the genre rom-com Armageddon Road which is set to premier as Fantaspoa, Latin America's largest genre film fest.

In addition to her creative achievements, Kate holds a Certificate in Entertainment Law from York University’s Osgoode Hall, and uniquely brings her performance background as an accomplished pro-wrestler to her filmmaking practice, infusing her narratives with grounded physicality and bold energy.
